Sir Alex Ferguson’s chewing gum sells for $600,000

Sir Alex Ferguson’s last piece of chewing gum sells for $600,000
A piece of chewing gum believed to be the last used by Sir Alex Ferguson as Manchester United manager has reportedly sold for over $A600,000.
Ferguson took his final bow as United manager earlier this week after 26 years at the helm.
A ravenous chewer during most of his career, there’s little doubt Sir Alex would have gone through few a sticks of gum during United’s thrilling 5-5 draw with West Bromwich Albion on Monday.
After the match, one fan claims to have souvenired the final piece of gum off the pitch and put in on eBay – in a custom-made wooden case (of course).
The listing on eBay read:
“Used chewing gum: RARE. Recovered from The Hawthorns. Clear perspex/wooden case.
Unofficial merchandise, rumoured to belong to Sir Alex.
After 1,500 games of intense chewing as manager of Man Utd, here lies Fegie’s last piece of chewing gum.
All proceeds go to the MU Foundation charity.
Happy bidding.”
The listing is no longer available online, but UK paper The Metro said the item sold for nearly £390,000 overnight.
The MU Foundation helps disadvantaged youth in the Manchester area.
