Rapper Ja Rule out of prison and writing his memoirs
After almost two years in prison, Ja Rule is a free man.
On Tuesday, the Queens rapper was released from an upstate New York detention center three months ahead of schedule. As per the terms of his early release, he'll remain under house arrest until July 28. According to a rep, Ja Rule will spend that time wrapping up work on a book: "At present, he looks forward to spending some time with his family while he completes his memoir."
Fat Joe, N.O.R.E. and Bun B tweeted their welcome home wishes to the recently-released rapper. In 2011, Ja Rule was put behind bars for illegal possession of a weapon as well as three counts of tax evasion.
The rapper, known to the justice system and his relatives as Jeffrey Atkins, will be under federally monitored house arrest until July 28. He’s been writing his memoirs.
He’s 37.
Lauryn Hill was recently sentenced to three months in prison for three years of unpaid taxes. Hill has yet to begin her jail term.
